Blackbirds at Vale View

Last year (2004) a blackbird decided that the top of the woodpile in our porch was a good place to bring up her brood. She is back again this year.

These pics (click on each for larger versions) show the family progrees in 2004. 2005 are below. More will be added as they are available.

2004

24th May: Mrs Blackie on the nest
27th May: She was sitting on five eggs
8th June: The new born
13th June:Growing up
18th June: Ready to go.

2005

Mrs Blackie this year is very reluctant to allow pictures while she is sitting!

30th April Nest building well under way
1st May Progress
2nd May Ready for eggs?

4th May Two eggs! (Presumably one was laid on 3rd May)

5th May Three eggs
6th May Four eggs
9th May Five eggs
11th May This is the woodpile. The nest is in the middle at the top, about 6 feet (2 metres) above the floor of our porch.
11th May Five eggs, but I cannot get Mrs Blackie to sit long enough for her portrait
15th May Five eggs. Mrs Blackie still being shy.
21st May They've hatched! (Either today or yesterday) Mum still being shy. Presumably she loves them!
26th May Feathers appearing
29th May Beginning to look like birds
30th May Not much space left in that nest
1st June They are standing up occasionally now and there is no room to move round.
3rd June 0833 First one thinking of leaving - he wouldn't sit still.
3rd June 0855 First one gone - the others still thinking about it.
3rd June 1331 All gone - what a mess they have left!
